Whenever on holiday one expects a certain degree of style and comfort from one’s accommodation. Whether it’s pure cotton sheets, foam mattresses or a luxurious duvet, hotels are expected to provide a high degree of quality in the bedroom furnishings on offer. With travel booming, though, some hotels have taken it upon themselves to differentiate from the pack. The result: quirky beds, and lots of them! Here are our favourites from across the net.
Malutka Fairy’s Grotto, Baza
A holiday to Spain can often make one think purely of the oft-repeated stereotypes of package holidays and ex-pat bars, but there’s a quirky side to Spain that is little-known to the masses. Take, for instance, this cave house in Spain! On the outskirts of Baza, the bedrooms of this wonderful property are literally set in stone, decorated in a deliciously boutique fashion with lace and lots of whites and azure blues; there’s really no abode better that allows guests to retreat from the sun!
Figueroa Hotel, LA
Los Angeles is all about style, though can often come across as overtly flashy. For those that only really appreciate the comforts of home and a good quality bed, the accommodation available in the city of angels can be viewed as rather ostentatious; not the Figueroa, however. Looking more like a Moroccan opium den than a five-star duplex, the bedrooms and beds on offer at this stylish hotel are unparalleled, with dark mahogany frames, dusky sheets and a sumptuous North African palate to match!
Rough Luxe Hotel, London
If a hotel was to best describe its environs, it would have to be Rough Luxe. Situated in Camden, London’s hive of individualism and the indie mentality, the accommodation provided by this shabby chiq destination is second to none. Lovely wall coverings that give off the pure essence of worn, tin bath tubs and one of a kind bed frames permeate the Luxe, making it a great destination for lovers of all things quirk.
Pavilion Hotel, London
We just had to include this one on our list, as the Pavilion Hotel simply screams idiosyncrasy! With boutique furnishings more at home in an upmarket bordello than a straight laced London hotel, liberal swathes of cloth, colour and pattern wherever one looks, and furniture to match, the Pavilion has some of the most vibrant, stylish rooms we’ve ever laid our eyes on!
Landhotel Beverland, Ostbevern
Beery nights so often culminate on the bathroom floor of a dingy chain hotel in the centre of town, but not at this next destination! When the owners of the Beverland saw a gigantic beer barrel at the museum of a local brewery, they didn’t just gaze through beer-goggles with a sense of quiet awe, they bought the damn thing! Hollowed out, the barrel was just big enough to cater a double bed across its diameter, with sleepy guests able to clamber up a short stairway to the bed after a long night in the stein filled beer halls of Ostbevern!
Jules’ Undersea Lodge, Key Largo
For lovers of diving, there’s no more appropriate destination than Jules’ Undersea Lodge, located at Key Largo, Florida. Guests can literally stay underwater, having their food and drink delivered by scuba and staying in bedrooms that feature a view out into the ocean. If you want to sleep with the fishes, without annoying the mafia, this one’s for you.
