The Palace of Versailles
Located just outside Paris, the Palace of Versailles was the official residence of King Louis XIV. It contains over 60,000 pieces and is a living museum, showcasing art and history.You’ll need a full day here to explore the highlights, including the Hall of Mirrors, the most famous room in the palace, featuring 30 paintings on the ceiling that depict political success.
There are also the lavishly decorated royal apartments and the extensive gardens that were designed by famous 17th century landscape artist, André Le Nôtre.
The Musée d'Orsay
Housed in a former railway station, the Musée d'Orsay is famous for its impressive collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist masterpieces. The museum itself is a work of art, with its Beaux-Arts architecture.
To make the most of your visit, start at the top floor where the most famous works are displayed and work your way down. Until July 2024, you’ll get to see 130 works across the Paris 1874 exhibition, including Monet, Degas, and Renoir. You’ll also see works by Van Gogh, Cézanne, and Gauguin, along with sculptures by artists such as Rodin and Claudel.
Atelier des Lumières
The Atelier des Lumières offers an immersive art experience. This digital art centre transforms classical paintings into dynamic, floor-to-ceiling projections, creating an otherworldly environment that engages all your senses.
Current exhibitions include Egypt of the Pharaohs and Foreign Nature, a contemporary space that uses fractals to merge maths and art. Visiting Atelier des Lumières feels like stepping into a new dimension, where the boundaries dissolve and perceptions alter.
Louvre
No art lover’s guide to Paris would be complete without mentioning the Louvre. As the world's largest and most visited museum, the Louvre is home to some of the most renownedartworks. It’s here you’ll see the Mona Lisa, Leonardo da Vinci’s enigmatic portrait that draws millions of visitors each year, and the Venus de Milo, believed to be a depiction of Aphrodite in Parian marble.
