70.8% of the Earth’s surface area is covered by water with the oceans and seas constituting most of this. Luckily, we have so many beautiful beaches, coves, bays, and islands that it is impossible to see them all in a lifetime. The best way to see some of them is from the water. Rent a luxury yacht and you can go anywhere you like. Here are some of the most picturesque yachting destinations in the world.
The best yachting destinations in Italy are Sardinia, Sicily, and the island of Capri, just off Naples. Capri is very popular with the Hollywood, artists, and the European elites. You can also take the boat to the Tuscan isles. They all have their own personality. Sardinia too has many beautiful beaches. Wherever you go, you will get delicious wines, cuisines, and you can also see historical monuments.
A country with a rugged coastline and 1200 islands. There are many remote bays in Croatia with stunning beaches, and also caves and uninhabited islands you can visit. You can spend many weeks exploring them on your yacht. Dubrovnik and Split are both terrific towns. Many places in Croatia have docks where you can park your yacht to see the beautiful towns and countryside. You will love Croatian wines and food too.
Malta is a small island country in the Mediterranean, about halfway between Europe and North Africa. It is just south of Sicily. Malta offers one of the longest yachting seasons anywhere in the world. Three inhabited and several small uninhabited islands make up the Maltese archipelago. They are all very beautiful. Gozo is very good for diving. There are shipwrecks, World War II planes, several reefs and underwater caves. On the land, you can see 7000-year-old historic sights.
Goa on the other side of the world offers a different flavor. Rent a private yacht and visit some of the best beaches of Asia like Agonda, Palolem, Baga, Ashwem, Arambol, Cavelossim, and Anjuna. Unlike most other places, you can also cruise on beautiful rivers here and visit mangrove forests, one of India’s biggest bird sanctuaries, and islands where you will see traditional Portuguese houses and churches. Majorca receives 300 days of sunshine every year. there are many beautiful beaches and coves in these islands. The water is clean. Explore the underwater caves if you are into diving.
- The Caribbean
The Caribbean is a favorite with the yachters. Antigua, Bahamas, British Virgin Islands, St Lucia, Jamaica, St Vincent… there are so many destinations to choose from. In fact, the Falmouth Harbor of Antigua is considered to be the “’Mega Yacht Haven”. Turquoise seas, white beaches, breathtaking scenery, and great diving make the Caribbean a top choice. Every island is different. These islands receive tourists throughout the year. Enjoy the great hospitality of the locals and the famous Caribbean rum. There is music and dancing too.
The best way to explore the Andaman Sea is on your own yacht. See the cliffs of the Phang Nga Bay and the famous James Bond Island. Take a kayak to explore the hongs. Or you can go to the Similan Islands where you will find far fewer tourists. Koh Chang, Hua Hin, Koh Samui, Koh Pha Ngan, or the pictersque Phi Phi or the Hong Island, which is close to Krabi. There is diving and snorkeling. Enjoy seafood on the beach, and the full-moon parties at Koh Pha Ngan.
Mexico has a coastline of 10,000 kilometers. There are two popular routes for the sailors – one around the Yucatan peninsula, and the second in the Sea of Cortez or the west of the Gulf of California where you will find a UNESCO-listed nature reserve with many critically endangered species. The Yucatan, of course, is Mexico’s Riviera Maya. It has the resort towns of Playa del Carmen and Cancun. There are many beautiful beaches and Mayan ruins all over the peninsula.
Slovenia is sandwiched between beautiful Italy and Croatia. The country has a smaller but very beautiful coastline in what is called the Slovenian Riviera. The four seaside towns of Portorož, Koper, Piran, and Izola all have Venetian influence. In just 47 kilometer of coastline, you will find beautiful bays, cliff sides, peninsulas, and towns. There are lakes to visit, national parks, caves, and the Julian Alps with their thermal spas. Slovenia is a beautiful country not to be missed.
Apart from the ones above, islands of the French Polynesia, Seychelles, Cape Verde, Turkey, Greece, Montenegro, Cuba, Bali, Maldives, and the Canary Islands are also good destinations for yachters.
