As one of the world’s centres of fashion, there’s a lot to offer fashion fans in Paris and lots of tourists enjoy it. With such a large and strong fashion industry, particularly for wedding dresses and designer dresses, fashion in the French capital has an endless list of destinations for a tourist to visit, and it’s not just about the leading fashion houses.
For instance, there is the Palais Galliera which is one of the world’s most famous fashion museums which has around 90,000 items dating from the 18th-century to the present day.
These include, for instance, Bridget Bardot’s wedding dress, Marie Antoinette’s gowns and Audrey Hepburn’s Givenchy chic black dress.
There are also various temporary exhibitions staged and the museum makes for an interesting detour for those interested in a fashion tour of Paris.
Indeed, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs is probably another must visit museum with lots of exhibitions and temporary events which has impressive fashions from Dior and Lacroix, among others, for fashion lovers to enjoy.
There’s also an impressive collection of pattern designs and textiles from history.
Visitors to Paris
Though it’s not strictly a museum, the Luis Vuitton store offers visitors to Paris a collection of its best creations, art works and is home to cultural events so it’s something of a ‘must visit’ destination for fashion lovers.
For those who can gain access, there is a private Luis Vuitton museum on the outskirts of Paris but entry is by arrangement only though visitors will get to see made-to-order items being manufactured.
Other museums worth visiting include the Musée Pierre Cardin and Fondation Pierre Bergé/Yves Saint Laurent where the fashion houses’ most impressive and famous designs can be seen.
Fashion fans can also look behind the scenes at Chanel’s flagship store to see first-hand how impressive Parisian luxury can be.
As with other fashion destinations it’s also possible to pay and join a fashion tour and Paris offers some interesting diversions and it’s possible to enjoy Paris with a private shopping tour of the best fashion boutiques, including those for wedding dresses and designer dresses.
Another great place for fashion lovers in Paris is the tour of the former Yves Saint Laurent base for their couture operation and there are still lots of photographs and sketches from over the years to enjoy.
The very popular Paris Fashion Week
There’s also the huge range of events and catwalk shows held during the very popular Paris Fashion Week; this is when for 10 days the world of fashion moves to its cultural home.
It is possible to get tickets for catwalk shows, with those for wedding dresses and designer dresses being very popular, though there are lots of other attractions that anyone interested in fashion will appreciate.
Paris is also home to some of the world’s leading brands and they have incredible flagship stores, including Chanel, Dior, Vuitton and Celine.
So, while Paris offers a lot of ‘must see’ destinations for the average tourist, such as the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre or the Arc de Triomphe, there’s no doubt that the fashion world also offers unforgettable experiences that aren’t just for the fashion lovers amongst us but for those who love creativity at its finest.
