5 Greek Islands to add to your bucket list

Greece is one of the top tourist destinations in Europe. It’s the perfect place to unplug from your responsibilities and chill out with a book. Each Greek Island has something different to offer – from adventure to relaxation. Hop between the islands on quaint fishing boats and get a taste of the Greek lifestyle. You can party until dawn at the hottest beach club in Mykonos or watch the sunrise above the mountains in Crete.

If you’re thinking of taking a tour across Europe, make sure to stop off at one of the beautiful Greek Islands. We compiled a list of our top five Greek Islands.

Crete is the largest Greek island and a great all-rounder for first-time visitors. You can explore traditional villages, white beaches, snowy mountains, and some historical sites. While some prefer the party strip of Malia, others gravitate towards the natural beauty of the Amari valley. The western valley is filled with olive and orange groves and plenty of authentic villages. Stop off at a local restaurant to try different cheeses, honey, olive oil and numerous Greek delicacies.

Santorini is a favourite among honeymooners and celebrities. The black-sand beaches and striking cliffs make Santorini one of the most beautiful Greek islands. Thousands of years ago, a volcanic eruption blew out the island’s centre, leaving a flooded volcanic crater.

Tourists flock to the top of the island every evening to watch the sunset on the horizon.

You could take a boat trip to the crater of Nea Kameni or enjoy a sunset cocktail in some of the most luxurious hotels around. Grab an Instagram shot of the magnificent views and indulge in the magic of this island.

Everyone knows Mykonos is the party island. You can dance above the waves and flaunt your new tan in the moonlight. The beaches have personal trainers and house music, while the city is filled with modern beach clubs. Mykonos is also one of the more expensive Greek islands. Who knows, in a few years, it might even be more popular than Ibiza’s club scene.

If you fancy something a little more low-key, head over to Paros. You can relax on the beach and explore the charming town before heading into the mountains for a hike. Paros is far less crowded and tourist orientated. Disappear on a remote island for the week, and allow yourself to truly relax. Sounds perfect, right?

Symi Island

Symi is a hidden gem among the Dodecanese Islands group. Symi is known for its colourful houses and stunning architecture. Vibrant mansions and romantic walking routes surround the port of Symi. Venture away from the port to see some smaller villages across the island and their crystal clear beaches.

Make this summer one to remember with a tour of Europe, and some of the Greek Islands.
