Any kind of travel is much appreciated over here but sometimes, when you feel like you’re in a bit of a rut at home, the best thing to do is get yourself out there and do something totally out of the norm. An all action holiday is by far the best way to do this to get revitalised this winter.
There are so many weird and wonderful extreme sports on offer these days and you can experience them in some truly beautiful and amazing places.
Here’s a quick look at some of our favourite ideas.
There are so many great snow spots for you to hit the pistes, from Canada to the Alps. However, while it might not be your first thought, Japan has some of the best slopes in the world – there are over 500 in fact!
Japan is one of the most spectacular countries you could ever hope to visit with clean and efficient cities that are leaps ahead of the times. Throw in the awesome ski resorts and it’s a snow junkie’s paradise – probably why they have hosted the Winter Olympics twice!
Hokkaido, Nagano and Happo One are some of the best resorts to take advantage of the perfect powder, so put your best foot forward and say ‘Sayonara boring, konichiwa snow!’
Surfing and windsurfing are great but we have to say, we agree with the mantra ‘Go High or Go Home’ and so kitesurfing gets our vote for best water sport! There’s nothing like the buzz of bouncing across the waves as the wind lifts you to all new heights that you could never reach on a regular surfboard.
Dakhla is one of the best places to kitesurf in the world with optimal conditions all year around. You can book kitesurfing lessons with Explora Morocco and opt for private, paired or group tuition.
The best place to bungee jump is of course, the commercial birthplace of the sport – New Zealand! For the daredevils, the ‘Nevis’, in Queens town on the South Island, is the highest point you can leap from or if you enjoy a great view, try taking the plunge from the Auckland Harbour bridge. (If Justin Bieber can do it, so can you!)
If you’re not one for heights then stick to the rivers and lakes and take an exhilarating ride on the white water rapids. Canada is one the best places in the world where you can enjoy this sport in breathtakingly beautiful surroundings. Try the Kicking Horse river near Banff National park where the river is grade 2 to 4+, choose either a one or two day trip with something to suit all abilities.
You can choose how extreme you want to go, with the huge selection of stunning locations you can opt for a leisurely paddle or an all-out power dash.
