Ever wanted to visit London but don’t know much about the area? When we first visited the capital we had exactly the same problem over at the Luxury Holiday Blog. Fortunately on the advice of a friend we decided on staying at the St Ermin’s Hotel in Westminster/St James Park.
Upon arriving the exterior of the hotel is rather unassuming and seems to blend in expertly with the surrounding architecture. However upon walking through its tree lined courtyard and into the hotel, its interior is a complete surprise.
The incredible brilliant white baroque plasterwork is really something you have to see to believe – giving the hotel an unparalleled sense of grandeur. In design terms, it could be compared to turning up at an ordinary looking house to find that the interior is that of a 17th century cathedral.
As for things to do (post being impressed by the hotels incredible interiors and excellent staff) the hotel also boasts one of the finest restaurants in London – but with a twist!
The roof of the hotel is home to 75000 buckfast honeybees which supply honey to the Caxton Grill; used in a range of recepies including the glaze on the parsnips that accompany the Grill’s signature dish – Steak from the Josper grill (which is only of only around 3 in the country) Also – although I’m ashamed to say we didn’t try it while we were there, I’m told that executive head chef Hus Vedat’s coffee crème brulee is not to be missed.
A short walk from the hotel and restaurant you can find pretty much every major tourist attraction in London (and if there’s nothing that tickles your fancy in the immediate area, the tube is around a 2 minute walk from the hotel.
As for the little extras available at the hotel, all of the rooms are kitted out with state of the art LCD TV’s, internet, iPhone/iPod dock alarm clock/radios and incredibly comfortable beds with white company linen.
All in all, an incredible stay that we couldn’t recommend enough to any potential traveller to London, especially given the hotels perfect location!
