Situated just 40 miles from central London, Windsor is a beautiful and historical town in the Royal county of Berkshire, known for its close links to the royal family. Home to Windsor castle, fabulous boutique shops and the Royal Ascot, Windsor makes the perfect weekend hotel getaway.
If you’re looking to shop until you drop there is a great selection of retailers in Windsor and the surrounding area, especially given its size; a visit to the Royal shopping centre is certainly in order. If you’re looking for even more designer stores, luxury boutiques, antique shops and art galleries then a visit to the nearby Eton High Street will not disappoint.
If you fancy a break from shopping then Windsor Castle is a short walk across the town from the Royal shopping centre and offers a number of fantastic tours that explore the grounds and Royal exhibitions. What to see
There are also some fantastic activities and attractions in the area. Windsor and its surrounding area is host to some of the finest golf courses (including Wentworth Golf Club), the world class and purpose built Dorney rowing Lake and Royal Windsor racecourse. Races are hosted every year between April and October and if you’re visiting in June then the famous Ascot racecourse is just 6 miles from Windsor. Every year during this month it hosts the world famous Royal Ascot race meeting.
In the evening Windsor is a lovely town to walk though as the castle is lit up at dusk and there are many pubs and bars scattered across the town. There is also the Theatre Royal which hosts a huge number of shows, comedy stand up and music. The calendar is packed and booking in advance is recommended.
